Ram recalls 2,144 trucks in Canada over risk of stalling

Stellantis will recall 2,144 Ram 1500 pickup trucks in Canada, along with 131,700 in the U.S., due to a powertrain software issue, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website showed April 19. The issue may cause pickup trucks manufactured in 2021, with 5.7L eTorque V8 engines, to stall due to an incorrect fuel mixture condition, according to the NHTSA.

“The company is unaware of any related injuries,” Stellantis said in an emailed statement, adding that there was only one report of a vehicle crash potentially related to this condition. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software on the impacted vehicles for free, according to the NHTSA.

In Canada, the Transport Canada recall number is 2023-221.

Stellantis in February recalled 340,000 diesel Ram trucks in the U.S. to replace an electrical connector after reports of six fires.

At the beginning of April, Transport Canada recalled 4,082 newer (model-year-2022 and -2023) Ram 1500 trucks and (model-year-2021 through -2023) Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators equipped with 3.0L diesel engines over a defect with their high-pressure fuel pumps, noting that if the pump fails, owners “may notice a change in engine performance, a fuel leak, or a malfunction indicator lamp and/or service electronic throttle control tell-tale” turning on, adding “This could also result in a sudden loss of engine power while driving.”
