The just-launched 2024 Ineos Grenadier off-road-focused 4×4 will start at $91,929 in its base trim in Canada, with two higher trims, the Grenadier Trialmaster and Grenadier Fieldmaster, starting at $101,219, the automaker said mid-May, ahead of its opening pre-order books on May 31. It aims to begin Canadian deliveries in the first quarter of 2024.

Those pre-orders can be placed through the company’s online configurator for now, and finalized at retailers that will be announced in August, said the 25-year-old British firm, which has just started a turn to manufacturing SUVs after establishing itself as the world’s fourth-largest chemical producer.

The five-seat “Station Wagon” – which sees U.S. pricing begin at US$71,500 – is billed as a “world-class, off-road oriented 4X4,” with rather apparent retro Land-Rover-inspired looks and a BMW straight-six sitting between the rails of its ladder-frame chassis and turning the rubber at each corner via permanent four-wheel-drive.

The Trialmaster Edition trim adds even more off-road kit like “electronically activated front and rear differential locks and BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires,” as well as “a raised air intake, exterior utility belts, and an auxiliary battery […] for customers that are passionate about ambitious off-roading and tackling the toughest terrain on the most extreme expeditions.”

The Fieldmaster Edition instead gets buyers “a collection of comfort and convenience features” like “Safari Windows, leather upholstery offered in two colourways, carpet floor mats and heated front seats [to make] outdoor adventures even more accessible.”

Ineos claims the Grenadier, built in Hambach, France, is extremely simplified, “minimizing superfluous electronic aids [so] there’s less to go wrong.” While the company offers full aftersales support including roadside service and “a five-year, 60,000-mile [96,000-km] comprehensive warranty,” as well as “a three-year paint warranty, a three-year warranty for accessories, and […] a 12-year anti-perforation warranty” on the frame, it will also provide owners 3D manuals and technical support “for owners who want to carry out work on their Grenadier themselves.”

The company’s focus on rugged adventure even extended to the method of delivery to some of its first customers, who competed for a chance to be take possession of their vehicle in Ineos’ “The Hard Way Home” contest, set in “a remote valley in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains” and touted as “the most extreme new vehicle handover.” As far as we know, the Canadian customers who pick up the first Grenadiers here early next year will not have to travel to northern Nunavut to retrieve them—but we’ll let you know if that changes.
