2023 Toyota Corolla

The world’s all-time best-selling vehicle has a new trophy to add to its display case; 2022 saw the compact sedan and hatchback topple Honda’s Civic 24-year reign as the top selling car in Canada. For 2023, every model features refreshed front and rear styling. All trims now feature LED daytime running lights, while the S-Line Corollas also receive newly designed LED headlights and a new rear sport diffuser, a wider honeycomb grille, dual tip exhaust and a rear spoiler. All models now come with Toyota Multimedia, an all-new connectivity system. Toyota also upgraded the car to Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 — the newest bundle of active safety technologies. And L-Line models now have the same 2.0L engine that powers the S-Line Corollas. As for the Corolla Hybrid, two new S-Line trims bring additional sportiness for 2023, with exterior and interior styling upgrades as well as other enhancements. New this year, three versions of the Hybrid are fitted with an available AWD powertrain.

Powertrain

For 2023, Toyota upgrades all L-line models from a 1.8L engine to the same 2.0L Dynamic Force four-cylinder found in the sportier S series. This upgrade boosts output by 30 hp to 169 peak horsepower for better acceleration and increased fuel efficiency. At the same time, the 2.0L engine boost fuel efficiency. The engine is paired with a direct-shift CVT and electric power steering.

Meanwhile, the Corolla Hybrid uses an efficient 1.8L 4-cylinder mated to two motor/generators that, combined, put out 134 net horsepower. Working through an electronically controlled CVT, the car delivers boasts a combined city/highway fuel efficiency rating of just 4.7 L/100 km for the front-wheel-drive model.

Practicality

Toyota upgrades Corolla’s technology with the next-generation Toyota Multimedia system, featuring an 8-inch touchscreen and intuitive touch and voice activation controls. All models are enhanced with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, designed to promote driver awareness, decision-making and control. All models also feature the Toyota Star Safety System, a backup camera and 10 airbags.

Canadian Pricing

Corolla L-Line models range from $22,690 for the L to $25,740 for the LE Upgrade. Sportier S-Line Corollas start at $25,150 for the SE and top out at $30,390 for the XSE. Hybrid models range from $26,090 for the LE to $34,290 for the XSE AWD.
