2023 Honda CR-V Overview
Completely redesigned for 2023, the new sixth-generation CR-V features bolder styling, increased space, comfort and performance. The bigger news, however, is that the hybrid version — which had been sold in the US — will now be sold in Canada for the first time, complete with a stronger look and a new hybrid system for a sportier driving experience. The hybrid-powered Touring Hybrid trim is positioned at the top of the CR-V lineup. There are three turbocharged, gas-powered trim levels as well — LX, Sport and EX-L.
Performance
All gas models feature a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with VTEC and a continuously variable automatic transmission that's been retuned for improved response. The engine puts out 190 hp at 6,000 rpm. Its 179 lb-ft peak torque spans 1,700 to 5,000 rpm, arriving 300 rpm earlier than before for a more responsive feel. The continuously variable automatic transmission has been updated to reduce noise and vibration. Significant drivability and performance improvements include Step-Shift programming that simulates gear changes at full throttle. An updated Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System improves traction management in slippery conditions, like snow and mud. Available on LX and standard on Sport, EX-L and Touring, the system can now send up to 50 per cent of engine torque to the rear wheels.
Available for the first time in Canada, the Hybrid Touring features an all-new two-motor hybrid-electric system with a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine mated to a pair of electric motors that are now mounted side by side. This new configuration offers more power and a sportier driving feel with the use of a larger and more powerful propulsion motor with increased torque output. Combined system output has increased to 204 hp, while the traction-motor peak torque rises to 247 lb-ft of torque, making the Hybrid Touring the most powerful CR-V ever.
Honda says the hybrid-electric system is more refined at highway speeds and for the first time offers up to 1,000 lb of towing capacity. Linear Shift Control elevates the driving experience by mimicking the acceleration and engine rev feel associated with a conventional drivetrain. The new hybrid-electric system also allows for a substantial increase in continuous maximum speed — climbing to 185 km/h from 140.
The Real Time AWD system is quieter and can now send up to 50 per cent of engine torque to the rear wheels, improving handling performance as well as traction management in slippery conditions. A new hill descent control system enhances the crossover’s off-road capability. Drivers can also customize the driving experience for various conditions with three selectable drive modes, Normal, Econ and a new Snow mode that maximizes available traction and performance in slick snowy conditions. The Touring Hybrid adds a new Sport mode, for a more engaging driving experience.
Practicality
The 2023 CR-V features styling that mimics the rugged exterior design direction for its light trucks, taking inspiration from the recently redesigned Ridgeline and Passport TrailSport. A strong horizontal beltline highlights its increased overall length (68.6 mm longer), while a 40.6 mm longer wheelbase and 10.1 mm of additional width give it a stronger, more aggressive stance.
The repositioning of its windshield pillars is key to CR-V's new proportions and improved visibility. The base of these A-pillars has moved 119.4 mm rearward, 71.1 mm outward and 35.5 mm lower. Together with new door-mounted side mirrors, these changes improve outward visibility.
Emphasizing the new styling is a large, upright grille, a long hood and standard LED headlights. LX and EX-L feature a piano black grille mesh with a chrome trim, body-colour side mirrors with integrated turn signals. A sleek body-colour roof spoiler and a new, all-LED interpretation of signature vertical taillights make the 203 CR-V instantly recognizable from the rear.
The Sport and Touring hybrid models feature even bolder styling. More aggressive front and rear facias and grille mesh are highlighted with a gloss black accent, and Sport and Touring are the only trims with rectangular exhaust finishers. The unique lower bumper design is piano black on Sport and platinum on Touring. The underside of the rear spoiler is matte black on Sport, and piano black on Touring.

The Sport rides on trim-specific Berlina Black 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, while Touring features 19-inch split 5-spoke machine-finish alloys.
Inside, the LX features a new easy-to-use 7-inch touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, physical knobs for volume and tuning, and a simplified menu structure. Other standard features include heated front seats, partial digital instrumentation, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, remote starter, heated outside mirrors, LED headlights and 17-inch wheels.
The Sport trim adds a standard leather-wrapped shift knob and leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel. The EX-L builds on the LX's equipment with leather seats and a standard 9-inch touchscreen with a physical volume knob, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a simplified menu structure. Qi-compatible 15W wireless smartphone charging, an upgraded 8-speaker audio system are also standard.
The topline Touring Hybrid comes with a new 12-speaker Bose premium audio system with Bose Centerpoint technology and Surround Stage digital signal processing. Satellite-linked navigation and Wi-Fi Hotspot capability are also standard.
All 2023 CR-Vs come standard with an expanded Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistive technologies that includes traffic jam assist and a smoother, more natural feeling to functions, such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist.
Canadian Pricing
