2023 Ram 1500

The 2023 Ram 1500 adds a new Limited Elite Edition for the model year, building on the Limited trim with a multifunction tailgate, deployable bed step, cargo divider and adjustable tie-down hooks, jewelled rotary shifter, unique instrument cluster design, head and ventilated leather bucket seats, suede headliner, heated steering wheel and bright pedal kit. The Ram Red edition returns, a partnership with the Global Fund (RED) initiative for health emergencies, including a RED badge and grille, and a UV-C glovebox light that kills bacteria on items put inside.

Other new-for-2023 features include an available 12-inch customizable instrument cluster; standard rear-seat reminder; and standard LED hitch light. The Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited models with off-road package can be ordered with 22-inch all-terrain tires. Selec-Speed Control, a low-speed cruise control for off-roading, is now standard on the Rebel and available on other models as part of a package.

Performance

The Ram 1500 offers four engine choices, depending on trim. It starts with a 3.6L V6 that makes 305 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. It includes “eTorque,” a self-charging mild hybrid system that improves acceleration and fuel efficiency, but it can’t drive on its battery alone. The 5.7L V8 makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, and while the eTorque system used to be optional on it, it’s now a standard feature.

There also a 3.0L V6 “EcoDiesel” that makes 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. The TRX exclusively uses a supercharged 6.2L V8 making 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. All engines mate to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Practicality

The Ram 1500 comes in Quad Cab with 6-foot-4 bed; or in Crew Cab with 5-foot-7 or 6-foot-4 bed, and in 4x2 or 4x4 configuration. Available features, depending on trim, include an adjustable air suspension, multifunction tailgate with centre bed step, underfloor storage, and locking RamBox cargo bins in the bed sides. Depending on the trim and configuration, the Ram 1500 has a maximum payload capacity of 2,300 lbs and can tow up to 12,560 lbs.

Canadian Pricing

The Ram 1500 starts at $57,795. That’s for a Quad Cab, so when you’re cross-shopping, look at the configuration – Ford and General Motors have a lower starting price overall for their truck lines, but they start with a Regular Cab so be sure you’re comparing the same configuration. The Ram 1500 trims are Tradesman, Tradesman HFE (High Fuel Efficiency), Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX.
