The Armada shares its platform and driveline with its ritzy cousin, the Infiniti QX80. This full-size three row SUV uses rugged body-on-frame construction, and following a redesign for 2021, it continues into 2023 unchanged, save for the addition of built-in Amazon Alexa.
The Armada is powered by a 5.6L V8, making 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel (slightly less if you opt for 87-octane) mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. This is a smooth, capable yet thirsty drivetrain (15.4 L/100 km in combined driving). The AWD Armada’s fully independent suspension serves up a comfy ride although handling is a bit ponderous.
The Armada gets standard Safety Shield 360 (combining a number of safety and driver aids) along with a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with rotary controls for volume and tuning. All Armada trims have three rows of seats, with a middle bench or Captain’s chairs for seven- or eight-passenger seating. There’s a usable 467L of cargo space behind the third row, expandable to 2,692L. Towing capacity is an impressive 8,500 lbs.
The 2023 Nissan Armada offers much of the QX80’s luxury but at a lower price. It starts at $71,498 for the SL and stretches to $80,248 for the Platinum Captain’s chairs. The Midnight Edition at $74,248 gets black leather, second row Captain’s chairs and black exterior trim.
