Nissan’s mid-size family sedan sees a comprehensive makeover for 2023, getting bolder front-end styling, standard LED lighting, new wheel designs, expanded standard safety features and available 12.3-inch display. All-wheel drive is standard with the Altima, giving it a leg up on many of its competitors. The 2023 lineup includes four models: S AWD, SR AWD, SR Premium, and Platinum.
The Altima’s naturally-aspirated 2.5L four-cylinder is rated at 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. Compared to its key rivals, the Nissan’s acceleration is unremarkable, but the Xtronic continuously variable transmission is well-behaved and paddle shifters are standard on the SR grade. Altima’s AWD system automatically redistributes torque to the wheels (from 100 per cent up front up to a 50/50 split front-to-rear) according to road and driving conditions. The Altima’s cabin is quiet, but handling and steering feel trail the segment leaders.
The Altima’s cabin looks dated, but the controls are logical and human friendly, and the front seats are comfy. Altima comes equipped with standard NissanConnect featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard for 2023 on all models is Safety Shield 360 that includes emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, radar-based blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and high beam assist.
The MSRP for the Altima starts at $30,098 for the SE. The SR Midnight Edition is $32,698, while the Platinum tops out at $35,998.
