For more than a decade, the front-wheel-drive Leaf has showcased Nissan's commitment to bring all-electric mobility to the masses. The 2023 version comes with a refreshed exterior, new alloy wheels and three trim levels — SV, SV Plus and SL Plus. The exterior refreshments include an enhanced front end, with a refreshed front grille, bumper moulding and headlights. The Nissan badge is now illuminated and has been updated to Nissan’s new design identity. In addition, the shapes of the tire deflectors at all four corners, rear under diffuser and rear spoiler have all been modified for better aerodynamics.
The Leaf SV is equipped with a 40-kWh lithium-ion battery and 110-kW electric motor that delivers 147 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. The SV Plus and SL Plus feature a larger-capacity 60-kWh lithium-ion battery and a 160-kW electric motor that produces 214 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Nissan also provides a limited warranty against battery capacity loss below nine bars of capacity as shown on the vehicle's battery capacity level gauge for the first eight years or 160,000 kilometres for all models.
Inside, changes for 2023 include the new Nissan badge on the steering wheel and a new start-up video on the instrument panel screen. Black cloth is standard on SV and SV Plus trims, with gloss black finishers. SL Plus gets an upgrade to leather trim.
Standard on the SV trim is ProPilot Assist, a hands-on driver assist system that combines Nissan's intelligent cruise control and steering assist technologies. ProPilot Assist also includes a stop and hold function that can bring the Leaf to a stop, hold in place and bring it back up to speed when traffic starts moving again.
The 2023 Leaf starts at $40,248 for the SV and tops out at $48,848 for the SL Plus.
