Now in its sophomore year, the 2023 Kia EV6 arrives with very few changes, but adds a whole new high-performance trim level. In case you missed it last year, the EV6 is a fully electric vehicle built on a dedicated EV platform. It shares its platform and motors with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 but has a more style-forward design. The EV6 is appealing due to its versatility. Shoppers can buy standard-range and long-range models. Shoppers get rear-wheel-drive in the standard range models and all-wheel-drive with the long-range models. The big news this year is the addition of a 576-hp GT model which can embarrass supercars in a drag race.
Rear-wheel-drive models are powered by a 167 hp motor, and come standard with 373 km of range. Shoppers can upgrade to a long-range rear-wheel-drive model that gets an impressive 499 km of range.
Opting for all-wheel-drive practically doubles the output of the motors, with a combined 320 hp to motivate this EV. All-wheel-drive models also come with a long-range battery which allows between 406 and 454 km of range depending on the wheel size.
Those after eye-watering speed and acceleration will want to check out the 576-hp EV6 GT, which has all-wheel-drive and the long-range battery, but extra powerful motors that allow for a zero to 100 km/h sprint of about 3.4 seconds.
All EV6s include support for DC fast charging up to 350 kW, which allows the EV to recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes. A 50 kW charger will do the task in 73 minutes.
It’s hard to tell from its sporty, swept-back profile, but the EV6 is surprisingly spacious and practical. Headroom is generous and you’ll find 690 litres of space behind the rear seats. Fold those rear seats down and you have 1,322 litres of space for cargo and groceries.
The 2023 Kia EV6 has a starting MSRP of $46,995 for the standard range rear-wheel-drive model. Upgrading to the long-range rear-wheel-drive model is an extra $8,000 at $54,995.
Adding all-wheel-drive to the mix is an extra $2,500, coming in at $57,495. Kia also offers the Kia EV6 GT-Line 1 for $59,995 and the GT-Line 2 for $64,495. The high-performance Kia EV6 GT will cost $75,495, which sounds like a lot for a Kia, but isn’t too bad considering you get 576 hp and supercar-beating acceleration.
