Hey, it’s worked before for Stellantis (nee FCA/Chrysler). Bringing in a new model but still have a surplus of inventory of the old? Sell them side by side. Thus, we have the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK, the mid-sized, previous-generation, five-passenger-only SUV occupying showroom floor space beside the new, larger fifth-generation model.
All four models are powered by the yeoman 3.6L Pentastar V6, which pumps out 295 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Quadra-Trac I 4x4 system is standard on Laredo and Altitude and is always engaged for all-weather capability. Quadra-Trac II, standard on Limited and Limited X and available on Laredo and Altitude, adds a two-speed transfer case that can send as much as 100% of available torque to the axle with most traction. Available is the Selec-Terrain Traction Management System, which features Snow, Sand, Auto, Mud and Rock settings.
The Grand Cherokee WK offers an impressive towing capacity up to 6,200 lb (2,812 kg), so it makes a very competent tow vehicle. Get added heavy-duty engine cooling, a Class IV hitch receiver, 4- and 7-pin wiring harness, rear load-levelling suspension, and a full-size spare with the available Trailer Tow Group IV.
There are four models to choose from — Laredo ($50,945), Altitude ($55,445), Limited ($58,245) and topline Limited X ($65,245).
