For shoppers that want a pickup truck without the cumbersome size and expensive fuel consumption, there’s the 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz. This small pickup is based on the Tucson crossover, which is to say it’s comfortable, practical, and easy to drive. For 2023, the vehicle gets a few small changes, including a larger standard infotainment system. It also features a slightly higher starting price.
There’s only one powertrain at play in the 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Under the hood is a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. That’s paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard all-wheel-drive. The truck has 218 mm of ground clearance and should be able to tackle off-road trails, thanks to its generous 17.5-degree approach angle, 23.2-degree departure angle and 18.6-degree break over angles. Fuel economy is pretty good too, with the Santa Cruz rated for 12.1L/100km in the city, 8.7 L/100 km on the highway and 10.6 L/100 km combined.
The Santa Cruz doesn’t have as much passenger space as some crossovers, with 2,883 litres in the cabin. The bed features 764 litres of space. But if you’re looking at a Santa Cruz, you’ll want to check out its towing ability, as it can drag 5,000 lbs of stuff on a trailer.
The 2023 Santa Cruz starts at $42,024 for the Preferred trim. The automaker offers a $2,900 Trend Package which adds some driver aids and other convenience features. There’s also a $48,824 fully loaded Ultimate trim.
