The 2023 Hyundai Tucson is one of the coolest and most popular vehicles on the road. It’s easily in the top 10 best-selling crossovers in the country thanks to its plentiful options and attractive pricing.
Not much has changed for the 2023 model, as the 2022 version was all new. But the vehicle does come with a variety of powertrains including a gas model, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The fourth-generation Tucson is the best yet, and here’s what you can expect from the crossover.
Gas versions of the 2023 Tucson come with a 187-hp 2.5-litre, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, while the hybrid models swap that out for a turbocharged 1.6-litre turbo-four that makes a combined 226 hp, or 261 hp in plug-in hybrid models. All models use an eight-speed automatic transmission, and most models include all-wheel-drive, except for the basic trims which can be had with front-wheel-drive.
Front-wheel-drive gas-powered models deliver 9.4 L/100 km during city driving, 7.4 on the highway and 8.5 combined, while all-wheel-drive models manage 10.1 city, 8.3 highway and 9.3 combined. The standard Hybrid manages 6.4 L/100 km combined, while the PHEV features a range of 53 km on a full charge and 6.7 L/100 km combined when the battery is depleted.
The Hyundai Tucson is among the biggest compact crossovers on the market. It features 3,065 litres of passenger volume, which is more than the likes of the Honda CR-V. Hybrid models feature a bit less, but still pack at least 3,000 litres of passenger volume.
In terms of cargo space, the Tucson is extremely practical with gas models featuring 1,095 litres of cargo room behind the rear seats, while the hybrid offers 1,097 litres and the plug-in hybrid is down to 902 litres. Fold down the rear seats and the Tucson offers a maximum of 2,119 litres of space.
The 2023 Hyundai Tucson starts at $30,224 including destination and delivery for the front-wheel-drive Essential model. Adding all-wheel-drive is an extra $2,000, but mid-trim Urban models and higher come with it as standard equipment. Finally, the top trim Ultimate Hybrid costs $44,124 and it costs $4,600 to upgrade it to a PHEV model.
