The mid-sized sedan segment might feel a bit stale, but the Sonata is one of the coolest and most stylish mainstream four doors on the market. Its flowing design features a sportback profile while the spiffy headlights overflow onto the hood of the vehicle.
The 2023 Hyundai Sonata gets two fewer trims, consolidating a few options from the 2022 model. The car also comes with a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system compared to the eight-inch unit in the outgoing model. It also features a larger information display.
The Sonata is available in several trims and powertrains. The basic gas models come with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder that makes 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, while the Sport model comes with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 180 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Shoppers can also opt for a more powerful N-Line model or the more fuel-efficient hybrid model.
All models come with front-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency for the 2.5-litre model is rated at 8.8 l/100 km in city driving conditions, 6.4 on the highway and 7.7 combined. The 1.6T isn’t far off with 9.0/6.5/7.9 figures.
There are an impressive 2,956 litres of passenger space in the Sonata, and 453 litres of cargo space. There are many cool driver assistance and safety equipment that come standard on the Sonata, including adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance. There’s also a cool remote parking feature to help you get in and out of tight spots without even needing to be in the car.
The 2023 Sonata starts at $30,924 for the base Preferred model. The Sport trim comes with the 1.6-litre turbo engine and costs $35,424. Shoppers can spend up to $250 on paint options to personalize their ride.
