The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been one of the most popular electric vehicles on the road. It has a head-turning exterior design and a spacious cabin, not to mention plenty of range and power. If that’s not enough, the Ioniq 5 has one of the fastest charging electric platforms on the market, which can be a huge help for people transitioning to an all-electric lifestyle.

For 2023, the Ioniq 5 loses the base Essential trim and starts with the better-equipped Preferred model. That means there’s more standard equipment and a higher starting price.

Performance

Entry-level Ioniq 5 models feature a 58 kWh battery and a 168 hp motor that powers the rear wheels. This model can travel 354 km on a single charge. Shoppers can upgrade to the Long Range model, which uses a bigger, 77 kWh battery and a more powerful 225 hp motor. As a result, this model is rated to travel 488 km on a full battery. The Ioniq 5 can also pair the big battery with an extra motor, resulting in 320 hp and 428 km of range in an all-wheel-drive package.

Using a Level 2 charger, it can take anyway between five and seven hours to fully recharge the Ioniq 5, but using a Level 3 charger, you can knock that down to just 17 minutes.

Practicality

Due to the EV-first design of the Ioniq 5, it features smart packaging that allows for a maximum amount of passenger and cargo room. It has a total of 3,016 litres of passenger volume, which is on par with some of the larger crossovers on the market. There’s also a generous amount of cargo room, with 770 litres behind the rear seats, which expands to 1,680 litres when you fold the seats down. There are also 24 litres of storage space in the front trunk.

The entry-level 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Preferred is $50,924, including the delivery and destination. Upgrading to the long-range model is an extra $5,000, for a total of $54,924. The Ioniq 5 Long Range AWD model is $56,924.
