2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty

The 2023 Ford F-250, known as the Super Duty, morphs into an all-new model this year (as does the even heavier-duty F-350, covered separately). It now features four engine choices instead of three, including an all-new base V8 and new high-output diesel engine. The base XL trim is available in 4x2, but all other trims are 4x4 only.

New available features include a 2.0-kW Pro Power Onboard to run power tools and equipment; trailering assist features including an onboard scale to measure tongue weight, and a 360-degree camera system with a bird’s-eye view of the trailer; blind-spot monitoring that covers fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers; and cameras and reversing sensors that work when the tailgate is down. Also available is a full-colour head-up display, and low-speed front and rear emergency braking.

The updated navigation system can be programmed with a trailer’s size and weight, so the route avoids sharp turns or low bridges. All chassis cabs come standard with a power take-off (PTO) connection, and there is improved access to the vehicle’s electrical system for upfitters to install items when a fleet customer needs a specific body or feature.

Outside, the new F-250 receives new grille designs for better cooling, available LED headlamps on all trims, and an available Tremor Off-Road Package with front-end lift, tuned suspension, Dana front axle, 35-inch tires, and trail turn assist for tight turns. A new XL Off-Road Package adds 33-inch tires, raised air dam, electronic locking rear differential, and axle vent tubes for water fording. Inside, all but the base XL receive a 12-inch centre screen. Other features include a centre console slot that holds a tablet, front seats that recline almost flat, available wireless charger, and two optional premium stereo systems.

Performance

The base engine is a 6.8L V8 that makes 400 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Next up is a 7.3L V8 making 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque. A 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbodiesel is available in two versions, with the regular engine making 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, and the high-output version making 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. All engines use a ten-speed automatic transmission. The base XL trim comes in two- or four-wheel drive, while all other trims are 4x4. Depending on the configuration, dual rear wheels are available.

Practicality

The 2023 Ford F-250 comes in Regular Cab, SuperCab (extended cab), and Crew Cab. Trim levels are the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. The Regular Cab comes only in XL and XLT. The SuperCab comes in those plus the Lariat, while the Crew Cab can be ordered in all trims.

Depending on the engine and configuration, in conventional towing, the Regular Cab can tow up to 20,000 lbs; the SuperCab up to 22,000 lbs; and the Crew Cab up to 22,000 lbs. In gooseneck towing, the Regular Cab can pull up to 23,000 lbs; the SuperCab up to 22,000 lbs; and the Crew Cab up to 22,000 lbs.

The 2023 Ford F-250 starts at $58,479 in Regular Cab; at $61,579 in SuperCab; and at $63,529 in Crew Cab. At the upper end of the trim levels, the Limited in Crew Cab starts at $119,515.
