This year’s example of the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a bit more expensive but has more range and is offered in four trim levels with many options for shoppers seeking an affordable EV, a long-range EV or a high-performance EV. While many enthusiasts lament the use of the Mustang name on a four-door crossover, the Mach-E is plenty practical, speedy, and fun to drive. It’s also loaded with cool tech, including a hands-free driving feature known as BlueCruise.
There are a few different options for Mustang Mach-E buyers, as there’s both a 70 kWh standard battery and a 91 kWh extended range battery. Shoppers can also pair either battery with rear or all-wheel-drive, but performance varies depending on the battery.
Rear-wheel-drive models equipped with the standard battery have 397 km of range and feature 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. However, the rear-wheel-drive extended-range battery models not only get a bump to 500 km of range but more power as well with 290 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.
On the other hand, standard battery-equipped all-wheel-drive models feature the same 266 hp as the rear-wheel-drive models but come with extra torque and include 360 km of range. The all-wheel-drive, extended-range battery models have 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque along with 467 km of range.
If you’re after the fastest, high-performance Mach-E, then check out the GT Performance Edition, which packs 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque and can travel 418 km. That’s enough to let the crossover sprint to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.
However, if you want the most range it’s smart to go with the California Route 1 model, which features AWD and includes 502 km of range.
It takes about 90 hours to recharge the EV on a 120-volt household outlet, or 10 to 14 hours using a Level 2 charger. Depending on the battery, the Mustang Mach-E also supports DC Fast Charging rates up to 150 kW which can recharge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 45 minutes.
There are 840 litres of cargo room behind the rear seats of the Mustang Mach-E, which is plenty of space for cargo or groceries. Fold those rear seats and there’s a maximum of 1,690 litres. Additionally, unlike other EVs, the Mach-E has a front trunk with 4.7 litres of storage, which is perfect for storing a portable charging cable.
The entry-level 2023 Mustang Mach-E Select starts at $56,995 and has rear-wheel-drive and the standard battery. Upgrading to AWD is an extra $3,000. The Premium model starts at $64,995 and includes a few extra niceties like larger wheels, an upgraded sound system, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Upgrading this model to AWD also costs an additional $2,250 while upgrading the battery costs $13,000. The range-oriented California Route 1 comes with an extended battery and all-wheel-drive and starts at $79,120. Finally, the super speedy Mach-E GT Performance Edition starts at $92,745 and comes with AWD and an extended battery.
