The 2023 Ford Expedition Max is a longer version of the Expedition, covered separately here. While the shorter Expedition comes in five trim levels, the Max comes in three. For this model year, the King Ranch gets new standard equipment including 22-inch wheels, 15.5-inch centre touchscreen with swipe capability, premium Bang & Olufsen 22-speaker sound system, SYNC 4A infotainment system with improved voice recognition, and additional driver-assist technologies.
The Expedition Max loses its hands-free foot-activated tailgate. New exterior colours are Jewel Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, along with Race Red for fleet sales; while Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat is discontinued.
The Expedition uses a turbocharged 3.5L “EcoBoost” V6 in three power variations, depending on trim. It makes 380 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque in the Limited and King Ranch. It’s upgraded to 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque in the Platinum. The Limited is available with a Stealth Performance Edition package, where the engine has its highest output of 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, along with a sport-tuned suspension. All versions use a ten-speed automatic transmission, and all trims are four-wheel drive.
The 2023 Ford Expedition Max is the longer-wheelbase version of the Expedition, and like that model, has three rows of seats. It has the same legroom in all three rows as the Expedition, but its extra length gives it 971 litres of cargo space behind the third row, compared to 546 litres in the Expedition. That makes it popular with buyers who regularly fill all three rows with people and then need the cargo space to store all their gear. When properly equipped, the Expedition Max can tow up to 9,000 lbs.
The Expedition Max starts in Limited trim at $91,115. The King Ranch is $100,155, while the top-level Platinum starts at $103,510.
