The full-size, three-row Chevrolet Suburban was redesigned for 2021 and tweaked slightly the following year, and so it moves into 2023 basically unchanged. It shares its platform with the Chevrolet Tahoe, Cadillac Escalade, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.
The third choice is a 3.0L inline-six turbodiesel, which makes 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. All engines use a ten-speed automatic transmission. The Tahoe’s two base LS and LT trims are available in 2WD or 4WD. The higher Z71, RST, Premier and High Country trims come only in 4WD.
Depending on the trim, the Suburban can be ordered with 7-, 8- or 9-passenger seating. From the second row ahead, it’s a twin to the Chevrolet Tahoe, but it’s longer and provides more third-row legroom and cargo space. While the Tahoe has 886 mm (34.9) of legroom in the third row, the Suburban has 970 mm (38.2 inches) of legroom, and both have a low rear floor for a comfortable seating position.
The Tahoe has 772 litres of cargo space when the third row is upright, but the Suburban has 1,175 litres. It’s a better choice if you’re regularly carrying three rows of passengers and also need to stow all of their luggage. Cargo capacity increases to 2,656 litres when the third row is folded, and up to 4,098 litres behind the front seats when the second and third rows are folded. Depending on the trim and configuration, the Suburban’s maximum towing capacity ranges from 7,600 to 8,300 lbs.
The Suburban starts at $67,203 for the LS with 5.3L V8 and 4x2, and at $70,503 in 4x4. The only other trim available with both is the LT, starting at $74,298 in 4x2 and $77,598 in 4x4.
Among the 4x4 trims, the Z71 starts at $80,798; the RST at $81,498; and the Premier at $87,998, all with 5.3L V8. The 6.2L V8 and turbodiesel are available at higher prices. However, the top-trim High Country comes only with the 6.2L or diesel and it’s the same price for either one, starting at $93,998. Depending on the trim, available options include power side steps with LED perimeter lighting, panoramic sunroof, adaptive air suspension, integrated trailer brake controller, and Super Cruise hands-free adaptive cruise control.
