2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

If you liked the Chevrolet Bolt but felt something was missing, perhaps the Bolt EUV is more your speed. Instead of being a compact hatchback, the EUV is best described as a compact crossover. The EUV acronym stands for Electric Utility Vehicle, the only additional utility is additional interior room than the standard Chevy Bolt EV. The EUV also has less range and a higher price tag than the normal Bolt. However, the EUV does have a fresh new look and a high-tech interior. Furthermore, it can be equipped with SuperCruise, which is an impressive feature exclusive to GM vehicles that allows for hands-free driving on the highway.

Performance

The EUV is powered by a 65 kWh Lithium-Ion battery that feeds an electric motor. That motor is the same as the normal Bolt, with 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. Despite the utility name, the EUV is front-wheel-drive-only. Don’t knock that motor though, as it allows a seven-second sprint from zero to 100 km/h.

In comparison to the Bolt, the EUV has just 397 km of range, which is 20 km less than the normal model. It’s important to note that while the Bolt EUV supports DC Fast Charging, it’s limited to just 50 kW, which is significantly slower than other EVs on the market. That bumps the battery up by 154 km in 30 mins, though a Level 2 charger will recharge the battery in seven hours.

Chevy will cover the standard installation of a Level 2 Charging outlet for buyers of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, but those who don’t want or need this offer will be given a $750 credit to use on the FLO public charging network.

Practicality

The Bolt EUV has an advantage over the standard Bolt with rear seat space that boasts more legroom. Other dimensions are similar though, including front and rear headroom. The Bolt EUV also has a decent amount of cargo room, with 462 litres behind the rear seats, and 1,611 litres behind the front seats.

Canadian Pricing

The 2023 Bolt EUV is a bit more expensive than last year's model, with a starting price of $42,348 for the LT model, including destination fees. This model is well equipped and includes a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a large 10.2-inch touch-screen, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection. There’s also a $1,995 LT True North Edition package that adds leather seating, vented front seats, a rear centre armrest and dark 17-inch wheels.

The fully loaded Premier model costs $45,848 and includes niceties such as vented front seats, adaptive cruise control, a rear camera mirror, and ambient lighting and buyers can equip it with  the impressive SuperCruise hands-free driving system.
