2023 Chevrolet Tahoe

The Chevrolet Tahoe was an all-new model for 2021, and so it remains largely unchanged for the 2023 model year. It does see a new addition in the 2023 Tahoe RST Performance Edition, which builds on the regular RST trim and its available 6.2L V8.

The Performance Edition increases the engine’s output by 13 horsepower and 7 lb-ft of torque, giving it a total of 433 horses and 467 lb-ft. Chevrolet says it’s the fastest Tahoe it has offered to the public, hitting 0-96 km/h in 5.78 seconds and with a top speed of 199 km/h. It uses some chassis and suspension components from the Tahoe PPV police version, including its springs, retuned dampers, chassis calibrations, lower ride height, and Brembo front and rear brakes.

Performance

The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe is available with a choice of three engines, depending on the trim. The base engine is a 5.3L V8 that makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. An available 6.2L V8 makes 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Both engines have Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM), a fuel-saving technology that shuts off some cylinders when full power isn’t required.

The third choice is a 3.0L inline-six turbodiesel, which makes 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. All engines use a ten-speed automatic transmission. The Tahoe’s two base LS and LT trims are available in 2WD or 4WD. The higher Z71, RST, Premier and High Country trims come only in 4WD.

Practicality

The Tahoe comes with three rows of seats, and is available with 7- or 8-passenger seating. At 886 mm (34.9 inches) of legroom in the third row, the Tahoe is among the top contenders for final-row passenger space, and with a low rear floor that improves the seating position in that row. Depending on the trim and options, towing capacity ranges from 7,600 to 8,400 lbs.

The Tahoe offers 722 litres of cargo space when the third row is up, which should be enough for most daily errands. The third row can be folded to provide up to 2,056 litres of cargo space, while folding the second row creates up to 3,480 litres behind the first-row seats. If the Tahoe isn’t enough for simultaneously carrying three rows of passengers and all their luggage, the Chevrolet Suburban is basically the same vehicle but longer behind the second row, with 932 mm (36.7 inches) of third-row legroom and 1,175 litres of cargo space when the third row is up.

Canadian Pricing

The base Tahoe LS starts at $64,203 with a 5.3L V8 in 4x2, and at $67,503 in 4x4. It’s also available with the diesel, starting at $67,448. The LT in 4x2 starts at $70,103 and at $73,403 in 4x4.

Among trims that only come in 4x4, the Z71 starts at $76,603; the RST at $$77,303; and the Premier at $83,803. Opting for the 6.2L V8 or diesel, if available in the trim, adds to the price. However, the top-level High Country offers only the 6.2L or the diesel and it’s the same price for either one, at $89,803. Depending on the trim, available options can include a panoramic sunroof, adaptive air suspension, power side steps with LED perimeter lighting, and Super Cruise hands-free adaptive cruise control.
