For 2023, the Chevrolet Equinox receives a five-horsepower bump up on its turbocharged engine. It also receives electronic power-assisted brakes, and new exterior colours of Radiant Red Tintcoat, Sterling Grey Metallic, and Harvest Bronze Metallic.
For 2024 you’ll be able to get the all-electric Equinox EV. Chevrolet hasn’t outlined how the conventional Equinox will fare alongside it, especially since the regular model is no longer built in Ontario — that plant now makes the electric BrightDrop commercial delivery van — but spy shots of a potential 2025 Equinox have been spotted, complete with tailpipes. Given that the Equinox and its mechanical-twin GMC Terrain are the best-selling SUVs in GM’s entire lineup in Canada, it’s likely both will live on for at least a while longer.
All Equinox trims use a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine that makes 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The LS and LT trims start in front-wheel drive and can be optioned to all-wheel, while the RS and Premier trims are AWD only.
The five-seater Equinox offers good headroom and legroom, along with 847 litres of cargo space that can expand to 1,809 litres when the second-row seats are folded down.
All trims include such features as automatic LED headlamps, heated seats, remote starter, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, emergency front braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlamps, and tire pressure monitoring system. The upper trims add such items as dual-zone automatic climate control, hands-free power liftgate, 120-volt power outlet, power driver’s seat, wireless charger, heated steering wheel, and auto-dimming rearview mirror. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on the top Premier trim and optional on all other trims.
The Equinox starts at $27,553 for the LS in FWD, while it’s $29,953 in AWD. The LT is $29,653 for FWD and $32,053 in AWD. The top two trims come in all-wheel only: the RS at $34,653 and the Premier at $35,853.
