2023 Audi SQ5

Audi’s turns up the wick on its hot-selling Q5 crossover with the SQ5 variant. This model is quicker and sharper handling yet retains the crossover’s compliant ride, making for a fine all-round performance SUV. Minor tweaks for 2023 include wireless phone charging and wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Performance

Unlike its four-cylinder Q5 sibling, the SQ5 gets Audi’s 2.9L turbocharged V6 that makes a linear 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This routes through an 8-speed auto and quattro all-wheel-drive. Adaptive damping and 21-inch wheels are standard, although the $3750 Dynamic Package (air-suspension and sport differential) broadens its performance bandwidth.

Practicality

The SQ5 might not be the roomiest in its class, but with 725 L of cargo space (seats up) and 1516 L (seats down) it is plenty useful. The sliding and reclining 40/20/40 rear bench enables multiple load configurations. We would ask for more useful front cabin storage. When properly equipped, the Q5 will tow up to 4400 lbs.

Canadian Pricing

With a starting price of $67,050, the 2023 Audi SQ5 Progressiv comes with a full suite of safety systems, LED headlights, 10.1-inch display, power tailgate, leather and 10-speaker audio. Stepping up to the $71,650 Technik nets LED matrix headlights, heated rear seats, top view camera, adaptive cruise and wireless, charging. Still, ventilated seats and head-up display cost extra.
