If you’re looking for a full-size Euro-luxury sedan that blends all the expected techno and sybaritic trappings with a true appetite for twisty roads, the Audi S8 tops the list. It may be aging, but the all-aluminum S8 is still an uber cool customer. For 2023, it gets a new remote park assist feature.
The heart of the matter is VW group’s 4.0L twin-turbo V8 churning out 563 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque in this application. When provoked it delivers an eye-widening turn of speed along with a suitably boisterous soundtrack. The V8 drives all four wheels through a brainly ZF eight-speed auto. Rear wheel steering and sport differential are both standard in the S8. When buttoned down in Dynamic mode, the long-wheelbase Audi is surprisingly agile and engaging.
The Audi S8 settles in as a cosseting cruiser when not embracing its wilder side, especially when fitted with the Predictive Active Body Control that reads the road surface ahead and preemptively smooths the ride via electric actuators at each wheel The optional Rear Seat Comfort Package bestows full powered rear seats with ventilation and massage, heated arm rests and LED reading lights.
The 2023 Audi S8 starts at $145,600 and for that we get 20-inch wheels, quilted leather, ventilated front seats, Virtual Cockpit, Bang and Olufsen 3D, and the full complement of safety systems and driver aids.
