The 2023 Audi e-tron Sportback is a coupe-like variation of the standard, e-tron SUV. Shoppers might find its design more attractive or sporty when compared to the conservative-looking e-tron, but it shares many of the same components and features. Unfortunately, the sloping rear profile does lead to slightly less cargo space and interior practicality.
Mechanically, the Sportback is identical to the standard e-tron, which means it features an electric motor at each axle providing it with all-wheel-drive. The two motors combine for a maximum of 402 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque, which is noticeable in Sport mode. However, the zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 5.7 seconds seems a step slower than some of the e-tron Sportback’s key rivals, like the Genesis GV60.
The same can be said about its driving range of 362 km, which feels a bit behind the EV standard these days. Still, that's a modest bump from last year's 351 km of range. However, the 95 kWh battery can be recharged quickly and easily since the vehicle supports 150 kW DC Fast Charging. It takes just 30 minutes to recharge the e-tron Sportback from five to 80 per cent, which is significantly faster than some other EVs out there. The luxury SUV coupe will take under 10 hours to recharge completely when using a Level 2 charger, and three days when using a Level 1 charger.
As sleek as the Sportback model looks, it comes with a slight compromise on interior space. Compared to the standard e-tron SUV, the Sportback features 50 fewer litres of cargo room with a total of 770 litres of space in the trunk. Folding down the rear seats will expand that space to 1,543 litres.
The entry-level 2023 Audi e-tron Sportback starts at $89,842, excluding the $2,700 freight and PDI fees. This model includes a ton of equipment, like navigation, heated front seats, four-zone climate control, high-beam assist and the super cool virtual cockpit digital gauge cluster. You have to spring for the $98,242 Technik trim for vented seats, an upgraded sound system, a head-up display, rear sunshades and driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control.
However, Audi does help shoppers get up to speed with the electric car lifestyle with four years or 1,400 kWh of complementary Electrify Canada charging.
