2023 Audi A5 Sportback

Of the three versions of Audi’s sporty A5, the five-door Sportback is the most useful, accommodating and arguably the best looking. The optional S Line Competition Package adds to the visuals with black trim, badging, mirror housings, rear spoiler and red brake calipers. Like its stablemates, the 2023 A5 Sportback gets new standard shift paddles, front and rear park sensors, auto dimming/folding mirrors, wireless Apple CarPay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and rear cross traffic alert.

Performance

As with its A5 siblings, the A5 Sportback runs with a 2.0L turbocharged four that, with assistance from a 12-volt mild hybrid system, makes a healthy 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. This smooth and linear powertrain delivers impressive power and economy. With its standard sports suspension and 19-inch wheels A5 Sportback blends engaging performance with an acceptably complaint ride.

Practicality

The five-seat, five-door Audi A5 Sportback melds beauty and practicality like few cars. The standard powered hatch opens to reveal 480 L of cargo space, expandable to 1280 L with the split rear seat folded. Back seat room is fine for adults, although the sloping roofline does cut into headroom.
