The 2023 Audi e-tron is the granddaddy of the brand's all-electric offerings. First on sale in 2019, this eSUV became appealing for several reasons including its traditional design, speedy recharge rates, and massive cabin. This year the vehicle gets rejigged pricing and equipment, although the vehicle is more or less the same as past examples.
If it has an Audi badge, it has to have all-wheel-drive, right? Fortunately, the 2023 e-tron uses an electric motor at each axle, giving it AWD and plenty of grip. While the two motors combine for 335 hp and 414 lb-ft of torque, drivers can push the limits up to 402 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque just by using Sport mode. That allows a zero to 100 km/h sprint of 5.7 seconds, which isn’t too bad, but below that of competitors like the Genesis GV60.
Thanks to its large 95 kWh battery, the 2023 e-tron can manage 364 km of range which again, is less than some of its rivals. However, one advantage of the e-tron is its speedy charge rates. It supports 150 kW DC fast charging, which takes just 30 minutes to take a battery from five to 80 per cent. A Level 2 charger will take the battery from empty to full in under 10 hours while a Level 1 home charger takes about three days.
The e-tron is among the more practical Audi EVs available, featuring plenty of space for passengers and cargo. There’s an impressive 807 litres of cargo space, but if you fold down the rear seats, there’s an even more impressive 1,726 litres of space for stuff. The automaker offers a more stylish Sportback model, but it features less space than the standard body style.
The e-tron starts at $87,342 for the 55 Quattro Progressiv model not including the $2,700 Freight and PDI fee. That helps the Audi stay below the new luxury tax, though the price may exclude it from receiving any tax credits or rebates. The entry-level model includes heated seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, 4-zone climate control and more.
The more expensive Technik model comes with more equipment, including adaptive cruise control, vented seats, a head-up display and an upgraded sound system but costs $95,742.
Audi also offers a few incentives, like complementary four years or 1,400 kW of DC fast charging sessions at Electrify Canada.
