Could Cadillac bring its Chinese-market 2024 GT4 to Canada?
No plans have been announced, but this Lyriq-inspired coupe-ified-XT4 cute-ute seems a logical expansion of its product line

American luxury brand Cadillac revealed its new GT4 late May, a compact SUV it’s building specifically for the Chinese market in hopes of gaining traction in a competitive segment currently occupied by rivals like Volvo’s XC40. While the automaker hasn’t announced plans to bring the sport-utility to North America, there’s also not much stopping it from doing so, and wouldn’t a coupe-ified version of the XT4 just make sense here?

The 2024 Cadillac GT4 bears a slight resemblance to Chevy’s Trailblazer in overall shape, and dimensions-wise, our reference point is that it’s sized between the Cadillac XT4 and XT6. The GT4’s front fascia, vertical headlights, deep body-line creases, swooping C-pillar design, and other elements seem to pull inspiration from the Lyriq halo EV.
Inside sees more of the same sort of sophistication, including a 33-inch 9K-resolution screen that houses the infotainment and instrument cluster; and Cadillac’s most recent Virtual Cockpit System. There’s a floating centre console, and accent materials include chrome, brushed aluminum, carbon-fiber, and upholstery piping—all the usual stuff you’d expect from a luxury brand.

Want more? Sure! Audiophiles should enjoy the 15-speaker AKG audio system (it’s not a Mark Levinson, but then again, nothing is), HD streaming mirror, head-up display, and surround-view cameras with seats that vibrate to provide drivers an indication something’s approaching from a particular direction. Yes, that technology is from two-thousand-and-late—but it’s still cool, though. A PM2.5 particulate filter, driver’s memory seat, wireless entry, and self-sealing tires round out the highlights.
The only transmission is a nine-speed auto, and engine options are either a 1.5L or 2.0L four. There are no official power figures yet, but if you use the XT4’s 2.0L as a reference, well, that produces 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and it’s probably safe to say that’s what’ll end up coming out of the flywheel, here.
What will the 2024 Cadillac GT4 cost? It’ll start at RMB 219,700 (CDN$42,204 equivalent, based on today’s exchange rate) and go to RMB 309,700 (CDN$59,493). Again, that sounds just right to us for a model that could make a mark, here. But, yeah, no word on if it’ll make it here, but as soon as we know, you’ll know.
