2023 Honda Civic Type R issued stop sale due to faulty seat belt

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has fallen victim to potentially faulty welds in the driver’s seat. As per Autoblog, Honda USA sent communication to dealers regarding the ‘Stop Sale’ of new Civic Type Rs until a fix is made.

The letter claims “the driver’s seat cushion frame assembly may have faulty welds which may lead to squeaking, rattling noises, or breakage of the seat frame welds.” If the seat frame welds break, the seat belt effectiveness is compromised and there’s a chance of injury, especially at higher speeds. The seat belt buckles into the receiving end, which is attached to the seat, so if the seat comes loose, the seat belt moves with it.
At the time of writing, there’s no recall posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website. North of the border, a spokesperson from Honda Canada said, “A safety recall notification (driver’s seat) for the 2023 Civic Type R has been submitted to Transport Canada. We are finalizing details as we speak on implementing communications and sharing details with owners. The final recall notification will be distributed and communicated to all owners, and all remaining unsold units at Honda Canada dealers will be serviced before being sold.”
